  1. It seems to me that public money paid to Mark's landlord as housing benefit for a room that Camden later ruled too small to be habitable helped the landlord's business grow in the times when there was not such huge demand in the private rented sector and Camden Council under a Tory / Lib Dem coalition modelled cuts in public services such as, say, checking that the room was large enough to be habitable.

Later, the landlord picked a time when rentable values had soared to unreasonable proportions, to get Camden to rule Mark's room uninhabitable. And, far from protecting the vulnerable tenant and 'sending a message' to such landlords that THEY should not cream off a living from the public purse with no hint of responsibility to the vulnerable tenant, Labour Camden now sides with exploitative landlord and ConDem Government. So
    LANDLORDS
    PULLING
    CAMDEN'S
    STRINGS?

  2. Indeed Alan, hopefully the article in CNJ will shed more light for local readers, I particularly like what Gisele said about Mark's vulnerability and the promises I heard the policeman make about negotiating a secure place for him once he was to be taken to Camden housing. It seems lives of the needy and vulnerable are totally overlooked in this State Britain we are living in today. And the programme last night on how to get a council house reiterated that in regards to single men in need in tower hamlets and across the country, little wonder how so many men are falling into depression and decline. A home is the starting point for us to flourish and every living thing needs shelter and or roots of some kind.
